REPLICA DIARY

I picked up my Pontiac Firebird Trans AM in December 2006, Central London.

At this time it was just a stock T/A with a few mechanical problems, mostly brakes, but a good starting point for a KITT replica.

As you can see the car then had the stock nose cone and a set of Snowflake alloys as were common on 2nd Gen Firebirds.  The two front tyres were pretty dangerous when I picked up the car so I stopped in at Sinton Tyres in Milton Keynes and picked up a pair of Cooper Cobra tyres for the front and carried on my journey back to the Isle of Man via the Ferry in Heysham.

On my return home I set about getting the car ready for the road again.

bullet new rear brake drums, pipes, cables, springs, pistons etc.  A full replacement of the rear brakes in fact.

With the car mechanically safe and sound it was time to move on to making it become "KITT".

June 2007 - Tail light blackout fitted

Also during the month of June 07 I fitted my 15" Turbo Cast alloys that had been sourced from David T's in Canada - they needed some tlc but with a cleanup and paint they soon looked the part.

July 2007- My nose cone from KNIGHTRIDERSITE was fitted (after much hard work!) and sprayed by "Azzy Paints"

bullet Once this was fitted it really gave the car that KITT look.
bullet A JC Whitney scanner was fitted as a temporary measure until my "Lectrics Enterprises" scanner was ready.

Now KITT was really coming to life!

August 2007 - Fitting the Gullwing Steering wheel

bullet Note the "Nineteen 82" hat, the year Knight Rider was first made!

bullet I have bought a set of 6 SPDT momentary buttons with extra colour caps and frames off eBay for £6.99

December 2007

My dashboard has arrived!

So has my switch pod

and "Bo box"

I have also given my PC a rebuild with XP instead of Vista as it will run much faster.  I don't need Vista for any of the car PC functions.  Now I need to work out how to fit my TFT into the dash!

June 2008

Electrics have arrived!

One year on from ordering, my electrics from Lectrics Enterprises have finally arrived!

Now I just have to fit them!!!!

January 2009

I finally got back to working on KITT!

KITT has been in storage for some time now and I recently put him back on the road.  He's driving OK, gears are changing up too high so I guess the TV cable needs adjustment.

Anyway, got to work sanding/painting the dash....

March 2009

Spring Shakedown....

I took KITT out to my local American Car Club meet.  I had WD40'd all of the gear linkage from the carbs down to the box, topped up with fresh DEXRON III trans fluid and the gears are just fine.  Just needed some TLC.

Not long until I go to the Knight Rider Festival in Las Vegas where I'll see some truly amazing replicas.

May 2009

Dash Install

I took KITT away on the ferry to Liverpool and drove over to a friend's house where some other KITT builders met up to work on my dash.  I think you'' agree they did an amazing job of it!

June 2009

Switch pod buttons

My pod buttons and tone generator board have arrived from Jupiter Electronics....

July 2009

PMD seats purchased from the USA

Glyn has been working on my overhead console for me.  Almost ready....thanks Glyn

August 2009

Steve and Stu came over to IOM to help sort out a few issues with dash install, fit spot lights, overhead, round gear shifter nob etc.  We took KITT out to my local car club BBQ. that's Steve sat in my car......or in the words of the Hoff - "jump in my car....."
